FAQ's

Have questions about Current Swim Coaching or how the packages work? Please find our frequently asked questions below.

Getting Started

How do I get started with Current Swim Coaching? What does the onboarding process look like?

Just complete this form to register your interest in joining, so I can email over the onboarding documents to you. Once those are completed, you'll just need to pay the invoice, send over your swim footage if applicable and we’ll book in your onboarding call. We'll use the call to review your goals, give you technique feedback (if on the Complete Coaching Package), and talk through your personalised training plan for the month.

Do I need to be based in the UK to work with Current Swim Coaching?

Not at all! I am from the UK but currently living in the Gold Coast, Australia. You can work with Current Swim Coaching from wherever you are in the world; that's the beauty of online coaching!

How old do I need to be to work with Current Swim Coaching?

I can work with swimmers from the age of 18 upwards.

I'm feeling pretty nervous about swimming and starting coaching, can you help?

Absolutely! I'm here to help build your confidence in the water, improve your technique together and help you feel more empowered to swim and develop your skills.

Do I need to have or buy certain kit before working with you?

As long as you have comfortable, practical swimwear, a pair of goggles and a swim cap (if needed to keep hair out of your eyes), you're all good to go. However, different types of kit can be very beneficial in learning to swim through practicing different drills. Therefore, I advise having a kit bag that includes a kickboard and pull buoy as a minimum, but ideally also hand paddles, fins and a snorkel. I have included a page with some equipment that I recommend, under "Kit Recommendations".

What kind of swimming abilities can you work with?

As a baseline level to fully benefit from online coaching, you need to be able to swim at least a full 50m of front crawl (freestyle) comfortably unaided, without stopping or putting your feet down, and can swim at least 400m during a training session. If you aren't quite at that level yet I would advise having some in-person coaching first, which would be more beneficial at this stage. At the other end of the spectrum, I am happy to work with confident, competent swimmers looking to improve their personal best times or just need small technique adjustments.

Do you have to be a pool swimmer to join Current Swim Coaching?

I work with a lot of pool swimmers, but also triathletes, open water swimmers and pretty much anything in between.

Payments, Currency and Contracts

How does payment and the monthly rolling contract work?

The Complete Coaching Package costs £119 per month, whilst the Core Coaching Package costs £89 per month. Once you have completed the onboarding forms, I will email you over an invoice to pay via bank transfer. Each month, I will send over the invoice for the following month's coaching, as it is a monthly rolling contract. However, if you are looking to stop the coaching for any reason, you just need to provide at least two weeks written notice before the start of the next month.

What currency do you take payment in?

Although I am currently living in Australia, this is a UK based business so I accept payments in GBP (£).  Please note any bank or transfer fees will be in addition to the monthly coaching cost and will need to be covered by yourself.

Is it a lock-in contract?

Not at all! It is a monthly rolling contract, but if you decide to finish coaching with me you just need to give two weeks written notice before the start of the next month.

Video Footage and Analysis

What kind of footage do I need to send for my onboarding call / end of month catch ups?

If choosing the Complete Coaching Package, you'll just need to send a few clips of your front crawl/freestyle filmed from the sides and again from the front from poolside. If possible, please include underwater clips too. Extra footage of other strokes, drills, or sprints is helpful if it relates to your goals. Phone videos are absolutely fine — just make sure you’re clearly visible and label the files if you can when you send them over.

How can you do technique analysis virtually?

When you onboard, and at the end of each month of coaching, I ask that you send over video footage of you swimming from different angles. During our onboarding/end of month video calls on Zoom, I will go through the footage with you, to point out what is working well and what we should be focusing on in our training.

Where/how can I get footage of myself swimming?

You don't need any fancy filming equipment; phone footage taken by a friend/family works perfectly. Make sure to check with your local pool for permission before filming. If your local pool doesn't allow it, try calling around other nearby pools/lidos as they often have different regulations. You can also ask if there are particular quiet or adult only swim times that might work better, and explain it will only take 5-10 minutes. Other options include obtaining footage in open water settings, private pools or booking out a swimming lane for a small fee. If none of these work, you can always choose the Core Coaching Package which doesn't include video technique analysis.

The Coaching Process

What does the coaching include?

Our Complete Coaching Package includes a 40-minute onboarding call and initial swim technique analysis, up to 3 personalised swim sets per week, weekly check-in support, a swim session guidance booklet, a post-swim reflection log, and a 30-minute end of month call with additional swim footage analysis. The Core Coaching Package is a streamlined option, and includes a 20-minute onboarding call, up to 2 personalised swim sets per week, weekly check-in support, a swim session guidance booklet, and a 15-minute monthly catch-up call.

How often will we speak?

New clients will have an initial onboarding call. Both new and ongoing clients will receive weekly message check ins, plus you can ask me questions and share feedback at any time. At the end of every month, we will do a catch up call to discuss how things are going and review your technique development.

What happens if I can't make an end of month Zoom catch up?

I will record our catch up and the technique analysis on Zoom for you to watch in your own time, so you'll never miss an end of month check in.

How do I choose between the two coaching packages?

The main differences between the Complete Coaching Package and the Core Coaching Package are the technique analysis sessions during our onboarding/end of month catch up calls. If you are struggling with a particular aspect of your technique, looking to maximise your performance or haven't seen significant improvement for a while, the Complete Coaching option is probably the best option for you. If you aren't able to obtain provide footage of you swimming, then choose the Core Coaching option. The Complete Package also includes up to 3 swim sets per week, whereas the Core is up to 2 per week, so it also depends on how often you train.

"My pull feels so much more effective and I am way more confident on what my stroke should feel like. I am now able to bilaterally breathe (which I couldn't do at all when I started) and my body position in the water feels much stronger and more natural. I loved the personalised plan and how in depth it was with timings and drills based off my ability and things I needed to work on. Amazing!"
