Getting Started
How do I get started with Current Swim Coaching? What does the onboarding process look like?
Just put your email into this form to be put onto the waitlist! As soon as a space becomes available, I will send over the onboarding forms to you. Once those are completed, you'll just need to pay the invoice, send over your swim footage, and we’ll book in your 30-minute onboarding call. We'll use this time to review your goals, give you technique feedback, and talk through your personalised training plan for the month.
Do I need to be based in the UK to work with Current Swim Coaching?
Not at all! I am from the UK but currently living in the Gold Coast, Australia. You can work with Current Swim Coaching from wherever you are in the world; that's the beauty of online coaching!
How old do I need to be to work with Current Swim Coaching?
I can work with swimmers from the age of 18 upwards.
I'm feeling pretty nervous about swimming and starting coaching, can you help?
Absolutely! I'm here to help build your confidence in the water, improve your technique together and help you feel more empowered to swim and develop your skills.
Do I need to have or buy certain kit before working with you?
As long as you have comfortable, practical swimwear, a pair of goggles and (if you have long hair) a swim cap to keep it out of your eyes, you're all good to go. However, different types of kit can be very beneficial in learning to swim through practicing different drills. Therefore, I advise having a kit bag that includes a kickboard and pull buoy as a minimum, but ideally also hand paddles, fins and a snorkel. I have included a page with some equipment that I recommend on this website, under "Kit Recommendations".
What kind of swimming abilities can you work with?
I work with a range of abilities. As a baseline level to fully benefit from online coaching, you need to be able to swim at least a full 50m of front crawl (freestyle) comfortably unaided, without stopping or putting your feet down, and can swim at least 400m during a training session. If you aren't quite at that level yet I would advise having some in-person coaching first, which would be more beneficial at this stage. At the other end of the spectrum, I am happy to work with confident, competent swimmers who are looking to improve their personal best times or just need small adjustments to improve their technique.
Do you have to be a pool swimmer to join Current Swim Coaching?
I work with a lot of pool swimmers, but also triathletes, open water swimmers and pretty much anything in between.
Payments, Currency and Contracts
How does payment and the monthly rolling contract work?
Once you have completed the onboarding forms, I will email you over an invoice to pay via bank transfer. Each month, I will send over the invoice for the following month's coaching, as it is a monthly rolling contract. However, if you are looking to stop the coaching for any reason, you just need to provide at least two weeks written notice before the start of the next month.
What currency do you take payment in?
Although I am currently living in Australia, this is a UK based business so I accept payments in GBP (£). Please note any bank or transfer fees will be in addition to the monthly coaching cost of £100 per month and need to be covered by yourself.
Is it a lock-in contract?
Not at all! It is a monthly rolling contract, but if you decide to finish coaching with me you just need to give two weeks written notice before the start of the next month.
Video Footage and Analysis
What kind of footage do I need to send for my onboarding call / end of month catch ups?
You'll just need to send a few clips of your front crawl/freestyle filmed from the sides and again from the front from poolside. If possible, please include underwater clips too. Extra footage of other strokes, drills, or sprints is helpful if it relates to your goals. Phone videos are absolutely fine — just make sure you’re clearly visible and label the files if you can when you send them over.
How can you do technique analysis virtually?
When you onboard, and at the end of each month of coaching, I ask that you send over video footage of you swimming from different angles for me to have a look at. During our onboarding/end of month video calls on Zoom, I will go through the footage with you and point out what is working well and what we should be focusing on in our training.
The Coaching Process
What does the coaching include?
Each month includes a personalised training plan based on your goals, ongoing messaging support, an end of month feedback call with swim technique analysis, a swim session guidance booklet and access to a post-swim reflection log. For first-timers you will also receive an onboarding 30 minute call with baseline technique analysis so we can identify what to be working on.
How often will we speak?
New clients will have an onboarding call to explain the process and do some initial technique analysis of your swimming. Both new and ongoing clients will receive weekly message check ins, plus you can ask me questions and share feedback at any time through message or your reflection log. At the end of every month, we will do a catch up call to review how things are going and review your most recent swim footage to see your technique development.
What happens if I can't make an end of month Zoom catch up?
I will record our catch up and the technique analysis on Zoom for you to watch in your own time, so you'll never miss an end of month check in.
